We are proud to announce a free private screening at the Moviehouse in Millerton, NY on Saturday, December 1 at 11am of the film “Michael,” shot entirely at IMS by alumnus Harry Bainbridge ’03 and featuring IMS students. Harry is a recent graduate of New York University’s Tisch Film School and “Michael” is his senior thesis film.

“Michael,” a short drama, chronicles the experience of one boy at a youth boarding school on September 11, 2001. A poignant investigation of society’s expectations of loss versus the real experience of it, the film is both personal and universal, drawing on the director’s autobiography to expose the surrealness felt by all in the immediate aftermath of tragedy. Michael must grapple with the ghost of his father, a man whom he never knew, but who defines him, and whose death before Michael’s birth in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing was publicly lamented, but privately withheld. Michael explores the experience of absence on an occasion that privileges those who know somebody who died’ over those who remain outsiders.

The film is 18 minutes long. Shortly after, Harry and the main stars of the film, Adam McKoy (Michael), and Lizzie Devlin ’13 (Claire), will hold a Q and A, followed by a reception with food and drink. The screening and reception is absolutely free, open to all in the community, and all who come will receive a free DVD of the film.
