Faculty Opportunities

Indian Mountain School is seeking part-time academic tutors at our Grades 5-9 Campus. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of children’s academic, social, and emotional development, with experience specifically from a variety of learning backgrounds. IMS seeks a Spanish teacher for grade 7-9 who will design engaging lesson plans that not only focus on language proficiency but also instill a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of Spanish-speaking cultures. This position includes residential and coaching duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach 4 sections in Upper School Spanish for 7th, 8th, and 9th Grade Students.
  • Design engaging lesson plans that not only focus on language proficiency but also instill a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of Spanish-speaking cultures.
  • Residential Duties as Dorm Parent one night a week and every 3rd weekend; Outdoor Adventure Ed duties.
  • Participation in program or program support, as assigned – either go on an overnight trip or fill in as a substitute for a teacher who is on the trip.
  • Advisory responsibilities include biweekly meetings with students; These are 6-8 member advisory groups.
  • Act as a point of contact for families and act as a liaison between students, teachers, and families regarding academic, social, and emotional progress, as well as addressing any concerns that may arise.
  • Support the philosophy of education. and the policies and procedures adopted by the School.
  • Communicate with parents, students, and colleagues in a professional manner.
  • Discuss with the Dean of Faculty and/or the Head of School any and all problems
    relating to students or the School.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Teaching, Education, or related field.
  • Fluent in Spanish.

Coaching Opportunities

Indian Mountain School seeks qualified athletics team coaches in a variety of sports for its grades 5-9 Upper Campus Athletic Program. Coaches report to the Director of Athletics and work with a co-coach or head coach. We are currently seeking coaches for the Winter and Spring seasons.

Coaching philosophies that support team growth and sportspersonship are required. Athletic and/or coaching backgrounds in hockey, swimming, skiing, and lacrosse are helpful, but not required, as is a Connecticut Public Service License endorsement.

The IMS Lower School is searching for a caring individual who enjoys supervising young children in and overseeing fun and artistic activities to join our Afterschool team. The position works with the Afterschool Program Director and other assistants to create a pleasant, joyful, and safe atmosphere for all students.

Duties include assisting the Director from 3:00-5:15 pm with responsibilities such as greeting children, setting up activities, keeping areas neat and organized, monitoring the classroom and play areas outside to ensure safety at all times, and establishing a pleasant and efficient atmosphere with parents during pickup time. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree are preferred, and candidates must be able to work outside in cold weather and inclement conditions to monitor outdoor play and watch sports games.

Indian Mountain School seeks part-time RN nurses: during day-time hours Monday-Saturday for the school year, and/or evenings, including weekends. 

Ideal candidates should possess strong patient care assessment, critical thinking, communication and computer skills and function as a team member. A CT Licensure is required. School health experience optimal, but not essential.
