The last weekend of fall sports was a BIG one for our Falcons, with tough soccer and volleyball tournaments. Our teams played hard and well. Here’s the Weekend in Rewind:
Girls Varsity Soccer
On Saturday, Girls Varsity Soccer hosted the 3rd annual New England Junior Girls Soccer Tournament. IMS drew the “C” schedule, which meant playing four straight 30-minute games before their rest break. The team began the day with a competitive game against Fay, beating them 2-1. The team fought hard and played well as a team to defeat Foot 4-0, Rumsey 2-0, and tied Bement School 1-1. Each win was truly a team effort with goals from Mollie Ford, Yaps Yapi, Emma Ohler, and Georgia Perkins, with assists from Emma Ohler, Lyyli Stern, Rory Perkins, and Rose Morlock.
At the end of a “physically and emotionally challenging run,” according to Coach Halloran, the girls qualified for the championship game for the third straight year and rematched a competitive Fay School, with whom they had started the day competing against. Ninth grader Yaps Yapi scored two incredible goals to help IMS take the lead in the championship game and the defensive line – led by Rory Perkins, Georgia Perkins, Sophia Sorriento, Genesis Villegas, Esther Lee, alongside goalie Katherine LaFond – held Fay School scoreless, securing the win and the teams 2nd straight championship trophy.
Varsity Volleyball
The Varsity volleyball team led by Coach Decock and Coach Toolan travelled to the annual Rumsey Hall Tournament. The team started out strong with a 1-1 tie against Westover, followed by another 1-1 tie against the hosts on their home court. In the third and final match the team lost to Berkshire school 2-0 and placed in third overall. According to Captains Ciara Dellea and Alexa Billo some highlights from the tournament include “during the Berkshire game Claudia Li and Alba Rullan Zurraga had some incredible blocks, along with some great hits from Dailyn Simancas, Alexa Billo, Rosie Muzaurieta, Ava Wallack and Olivia Tonelli.” In addition, Ciara had some phenomenal sets in the Rumsey and Berkshire game. The team displayed strong serving throughout the tournament and, overall, the team had an awesome run at their first tournament.
