IMS Athletics: Parents Weekend Highlights

On Friday October 22nd, Falcon parents, guardians, and fans flooded the mountain for parents weekend.  Our teams sported pink socks and headbands for breast cancer awareness. With a home race and three soccer games, cheers echoed across the fields and supported our teams to victory. 

On the Trail

The Cross Country team dominated in their first home race, sweeping the podium and following finishes. Ninth grader Jayden Hernandez finished in first place with a time of 13:48, followed shortly by Copeland Rollins (14:06) and Jeremiah Coty (14:06). Margaret Marcum placed first for the girls, coming in with an impressive time of 16:43. 

The mountain biking, “Falcon Flight” has been postponed until November 10th and will take place on campus at IMS.

On the Pitch

The Girls Varsity Soccer team  defeated Berkshire JV 4-0 in a game that was far closer than the score would suggest.  According to Coach Halloran this was the team’s  “strongest opponent of the season as they displayed speed, strength, and technical skills with a clear desire to get the win.” The Falcons stepped up to the challenge and played their best game of the season with goals from Emma Ohler, Rory Perkins, and Yaps Yapi (2). On the defensive end, Katherine LaFond played her best game in goal yet and her 4th shutout of the season. In addition, Rory Perkins, Paisley Pecchia, Esther Lee, and Sophia Sorriento limited the scoring opportunities of their opponents and allowed midfielders Lyyli Stern, Anna Lim, and Genesis Villegas to control and maintain possession of the ball throughout the game. Coaches Halloran and O’Reilly are proud of the team effort, with Coach Halloran remarking that this “was one of the best performances I’ve witnessed from Girls Varsity Soccer in my 5 years here.”

The Boys Varsity Soccer team has continued to find success on the field with a dominating performance against the Berkshire 3rds team. Coach Dave Gargill reflects that “all in all, it was a great team win with 9th graders Andrew Ju and John Maida both netting their first goals of the season.” In addition, Russell Soja (‘22) started his first match of the season in goal and had a stellar performance. 

The JV Boys Soccer team competed against Berkshire Waldorf in hopes for revenge after their game loss earlier in the season. The game ended in a 0-0 tie with some great shot attempts from Sebastian Teitel, Mack Wilmore, and Tony Dillon. In addition, Wes Augustin and Rhyer Simon had some great saves in goal to keep the score to 0-0. 

On the Court

The varsity volleyball team fought hard to the end in a 3-2 win over Hotchkiss. The team has continued to show improvement over the course of the season, bettering their accuracy and consistency with serves, as well as their ability to link sets on the court to create strong scoring opportunities. Claudia Li, Alexa Billo, and Dailyn Simancas Alacazar contributed strong saves throughout the match and Dailyn, Alexa, and Ciara Dellea worked hard to return challenging serves and rallies by the Bearcats.

All in all, it was a spectacular day with great performances by the Falcons!
