Last week, our ninth graders braved the elements and departed for their camping trip in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Along with Head of School Jody Soja, Director of Outdoor Education and Adventure Ethan Harris, and faculty leaders, approximately 45 students spent three days and two nights in the Pemigewasset Wilderness, the highest range on the East Coast. Fortunately the weather improved, giving us spectacular views of the region. The trip included one night in an Appalachian Mountain Club hut and one night camping at a mountainside campsite.

Each year, IMS students in grades five through nine take part in specialized adventure programs or trips throughout the academic year. These trips are woven into our outdoor adventure education curriculum to encourage problem solving in ways that build and enhance confidence, leadership, teamwork, and goal setting. Whether we’re taking advantage of our 600-acre campus, camping in the White Mountains, or hiking the Appalachian Trail, these trips help develop strong bonds and create lasting memories.
