As the fall season gets underway, the IMS teams are settling in, finding team identities, and several are already off to fast starts!

Girls Soccer is already back to last year’s form . In the opening game they took down Hotchkiss 7-1, showing great team play even after only a couple practices. The girls followed up that win with another impressive showing against Berkshire. After surrendering a couple of early goals, IMS responded with 7 consecutive goals to put the game well out of reach. Returners Emma Colley and Sylvie Labalme contributed all over the field alongside new comers Jessica Lomo, Gigi Welch, and Emily Grassler. With a team-first approach and a talented roster, the girls anticipate a season full of success.

Boys Varsity Soccer is also off to a fast start. In their first match, they battled against a physical Hotchkiss squad to a 1-1 tie. They followed up that effort with a wire-to-wire win against Salisbury, 6-0. Most recently, the boys traveled to Rumsey to begin this year’s rivalry. After an early onslaught from Rumsey, the game settled down and IMS began to control the ball. By the end of the match, the Falcons had netted 4 goals and coasted to a comfortable win. Riley Robinson, Athi Msiza, and Zobran Elias have shown incredible poise and controlled the middle of the field.

JV Boys Soccer opened the season with a hard fought tie against Berkshire Country Day school. Kevin Shen was able to get the only goal with a coast-to-coast run through the whole defense. After that, the IMS squad was able to tighten down and keep the opponent out of their net. In the next match, Renbrook traveled to IMS but was outmatched from the start. IMS had 4 goals from 4 different players and showed a very balanced attack. Falcons won, 4-0.

5th and 6th Grade Soccer started off strong with a 4-1 win against Rumsey. With skill and speed at every position, the team was all over the field and controlled the ball. The three teams, Doolittle, Riggs, and Rouse will combine their efforts in each match this season to take on all competitors. Many of the players on this year’s squad are returners to the program and are in a great position to set the tone for a successful season.

Cross Country traveled to Taft for their first race of the season. With only a couple of practices under their belt, Coaches Hodosy and Parsons were unsure about what to expect from their team. Harper Howe placed in the top 10 for the girls and several of the boys team turned in good times. With more training and practice, the team will look to perform even better in future races.

The Mountain Biking team went to Hotchkiss for their first race. With soggy conditions, many of the team returned from the race muddy and scraped up but in high spirits. Owen Bredhal placed 8th and every member of the team finished the race. For many of them, it was their first opportunity to race their bikes. With this valuable experience in their pocket, the team will look to keep building skills and anticipate even more success at future races.

Volleyball opened the season with a great win against Taft in the IMS gym. With much of the school in attendance, we were treated to a dominant performance by the Falcons. Ninth grader Nyla Mucius joined IMS this year and immediately stepped into a leadership role. Alongside her are a host of new and returning players with a lots of experience and ability. With the new season, new expectations are high and Coaches McAfee and Decock are excited to lead the A team and Coach Halsted is ready to lead the developmental squad to set the tone for years to come.

Awesome start for the Falcons!
