School spirit isn’t taken lightly at IMS. In fact, our colors—Maroon and Gray—serve as the foundation for a spirited rivalry within our own campus walls. The journey begins each fall on our Maroon and Gray sorting hike and culminates in the spring when a winning team is announced and a flag is hoisted.

At IMS, we are divided by our two colors but united by a single mission. During Mountain Day, the first official Maroon and Gray competition of the school year, our mission comes to life as we cancel classes and head outdoors to compete in activities like the egg toss, capture the flag, pass the peanut, and tricycle races. With the mountain as our backdrop and campus as our playground, students are urged to cheer positively for their teammates rather than negatively for the opposing team. The excitement of Mountain Day sets the tone for the school year and reminds us to seek new challenges, opportunities, and activities while channeling our core values of honesty, compassion, and respect.

Our internal rivalry is not only fun, it raises the bar and permeates all aspects of school life. Whether Maroon or Gray, students strive to bring out their best, all while learning the value of teamwork and sportsmanship.
