Although the school year is officially over, the art rooms are still very much active and in use at IMS. In its fifth year, the Art Camp hosts children from age five to nine for two one-week sessions. The artists work on projects from designing and creating an African mask, making clay animals, and designing t-shirts to “Under the Sea” paintings. Guided by IMS Art Teacher Cecilia Marshall, students enjoy three hours of creating, snacking, and playing together. They have the opportunity to work with a multitude of artistic media, including fabric, clay, paper, ink, paint, as well as a variety of natural materials, such as feathers and shells. Young artists learn concepts such as print-making, sculpting, and making a mosaic.

While the younger artists are busy creating works of art on the Lower Campus, professional equity actors and crew are getting comfortable on our Upper Campus. Stockton dorm is home to several visiting cast and crew members from TriArts Sharon Playhouse, a nearby not-for-profit summer theater. Presently, the group is working on Altar Boyz, which will be on the stage in Sharon July 20–29. Most of the summer residents of Stockton dorm call Manhattan their home and are enjoying the dramatic scenery change that Indian Mountain provides.

The arts are very much alive this summer at IMS!
