College lacrosse is always exciting and this year has been no exception. A few alumni who played lacrosse at IMS have had the privilege of playing in college. All of their careers in the game have been outstanding.

Two past athletes from IMS played in the Division 1 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament.  The University of Denver versus Villanova game was close with Denver winning 13-10. Jamie Faus ’06 is Denver’s goalie, and had 13 saves in the game, while Will Casertano ’06 who plays attack for Villanova scored two goals during the game.

Jamie and Will began playing lacrosse in fifth grade at IMS and then continued together at Salisbury School. Both have had outstanding careers in the sport.  Faus, a freshman, has started all 15 games for the Pioneers.  Named the Eastern Conference Athletic Conference (ECAC) rookie of the year, he has a .577 save percentage, ranking ninth nationally and second among freshman. Casertano, who is a sophomore, was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for his performance versus Georgetown, earning two goals and three assists for a career high in both points and assists. This season he has earned 33 goals, 17 assists.

IMS alumni are not going unnoticed in Division III Women’s Lacrosse either. Kelsey Markiewicz ’06 attended Berkshire School after IMS and has just completed her freshman year at Gettysburg College playing midfield for their team. She was named Rookie of the Week by womenlacrosse.com after the third NCAA Tournament game against Salisbury of Maryland, upsetting the two-year NCAA Division III Champions. This season Markiewicz has made 38 goals, 11 assists, and 31 draw controls. Gettysburg won the Women’s NCAA Division III title for the first time, and no other Gettysburg team has ever brought home a NCAA title. After the tournament, she was named to the All Tournament Team and the All-Rookie Squad.

Devin Hardy ’05, attended Millbrook School after IMS and now plays midfield at Bowdoin College. She has scored seven goals, four assists, and six draw controls this season. The Bowdoin College women’s lacrosse team had a  thrilling run in the NCAA Tournament but came to an end in the Division III Championship game as Bowdoin fell 16-5 to Gettysburg. The Polar Bears finished their best season in program history with a record of 18-4.

Colby College has had the benefit of having Sarah Warnke ’04 as a goalie on their lacrosse team for four years. After IMS, Warnke played lacrosse at Westminster School and was named MVP. Colby made it to the quarterfinals of the NECAA Women’s Division III finals this year and were ranked eight nationally. Sarah has had her best season at Colby with a .503 percentage and an 8.02 goals-against average while finishing the year 15-5. She was fourth in the NESCAC in save percentage and fifth in goals-against average. Warnke finished with an amazing 53-14 career record in net and 487 saves. She also had 54 ground-balls and 13 caused turnovers.
